The charismatic English player Mark James won the title in the event that marked the debut of the Madeira Island Open in golf.
James completed all four rounds in 281 strokes, seven under par (71, 69, 70, 71 laps), beating his compatriots Gordon Brand Jr. and Paul Broadhurst, who were in the immediate places with 284 strokes (-4).
